Extended Breaks Suggestions for Students

Over this extended break, Mr. Grime and Mrs. Ziegler would like to offer some suggestions of things students can do in each grade level to stay involved with their schooling while also preparing for the end of the year and next year. You are welcome to email your counselor with any questions about school, college, career or personal issues. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact 1-800-468-HELP (4357) or the police department. This number is managed by A Renewed Mind and provides free and confidential assistance 24 hours a day.

SCHEDULING FOR 2020-2021

We are working to finalize next year's high school master schedule. Once that is ready, we will be sending emails to students who have schedule conflicts. Those can be settled through email or we can schedule a Zoom video conference call and speak in person.

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS

Scheduling for Summer and Fall will now open on March 30. The schedule for both terms is available online at the NSCC website. Mr. Grime and Mrs. Ziegler will email students when we are ready to start scheduling for CCP courses. We will try and do this virtualy using Zoom conference calls.

SENIORS

Senior Scholarship Reporting: Take time to submit the scholarships you have earned thus far using the linked Google Form. The scholarships reported will be the ones recognized at Senior Scholarship Night. Report the scholarships earned from the college you will be attending next year. Do not report grants or scholarships from other colleges. You can also report any private scholrarships earned. These may include scholarships from your church, your parents' employer, athletic associations, etc. The deadline to submit scholarships is April 20.

College Next Steps and Deadlines: Pay attention to your college communications. At this stage, many of you should be preparing to make housing deposits, sign up for dorms, select roommates, schedule orientations, etc. Many schools are adjusting requirements so pay attention.

JUNIORS

College Visits and Research: Now would be the time we would encourage you to go on college visits, but we understand that those have been suspended for the time being. Take some time to go online and research colleges of interest. Many colleges offer virtual tours and the ability to chat with admission advisors.

ACT: The April ACT has been cancelled across the countyr, but to date, the June 13 and July 18 dates are still on. Consider registering for the ACT this summer. Hopefully you will receive your February results before long. Be sure to use the ACT Student ID on your report when you register online.

SOPHOMORES & FRESHMEN

Career Exploration: Take some time over this extended break to visit the OhioMeansJobs website and do some career exploration. Take (or retake) a career assessment and research careers of interests. Find a professional working in your career of interest and email them to ask for an interview. You can email questions, speak on the phone or video conference to learn more about their jobs.
