Final Paper Project

You will need to take everything that you have learned all year about the way that great authors create their works, and you will create your own piece of fiction.  Are you creative?

You must have earned at least an 80% on the final draft for the first literary analysis in order to choose this option.

The project has 4 parts:

  1. 1.Proposal (completion grade)

  2. 2.Plan (completion grade)

  3. 3.Rough draft

  4. 4.Final draft

You must successfully convey a theme through your fictional work.  In order to do this, you will need to manipulate plot, characters, setting, and various other “tools” in order to be successful.  Are you game?

Difficulty: very challenging

Book of Choice Literary Analysis

You will choose a book from the approved reading list.  Just as we have done all year with literary works, you will critically examine the techniques used by your book’s author.  When you have finished writing your analysis, you will present your observations to the class in an oral presentation.

The project has 5 parts:

  1. 1.Book report (completion grade)

  2. 2.Notes (completion grade)

  3. 3.Outline (completion grade)

  4. 4.Literary analysis

  5. 5.Oral presentation to class

If you felt that you did well with Uncle Tom’s Cabin paper, but that you wish you could have written about a book that you chose, see if a title on the list interests you.  Some are oldies but goodies from earlier decades, and some have made best seller lists within the past few years.  All are considered AP level reading material.

Difficulty: moderate

Career Research Project

You will use the library’s resources and a job shadow experience to gather research about a career that interests you.  In a research paper format, you will present your findings.  This project will require you to arrange a job shadow day with a local professional.

If you already did a research paper about a career in the first semester, you will need to seek special permission for Mr. Throne to do this option.

The project has 5 parts:

  1. 1.Research notes (completion grade)

  2. 2.Job shadow journal entry reviewed by Mr. Throne (completion grade)

  3. 3.Outline (completion grade)

  4. 4.Rough draft

  5. 5.Final draft

If you have seen little connection between the literature studied in this class and your real life, this is an opportunity for you to exercise some more “practical” research skills.
