Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) have some things in common but here are the differences. There are three types of RNA that have their own duty: transfer RNA (tRNA), messenger RNA (mRNA), and interference RNA (iRNA).

There is only one type of DNA with its own duty. RNA is found in one winding single strand or the helix. While DNA, as you know, is made up of double strand of alternating phosphates and sugars linked through oxygen atoms. When DNA unwinds, 2-deoxy-ribose in DNA is replaced by the Ribose in RNA. The extra oxygen in the ribose backbone does not allow the formation of a double helix. For more differences click here.
