The festival, after being denied many places before, took place in Max Yasgur’s dairy farm. Michael Lang and Artie Kornfield were the leaders in the operations, and decided to use Yasgur’s dairy farm. For Woodstock to be allowed, Land told Bethel officials he expected about 50,000 people to show up, even though he knew Woodstock would draw more. Lang then signed Jimi Hendrix, and gained national notice because of the rocker’s popularity. With Lang’s leadership and Yasgur’s enormous farm, the Woodstock festival was underway.
