The Woodstock festival took place August 15-18 in 1969. The festival took place on Max Yasgur’s 600-acre farm in the town of Bethel, New York. Thirty-two musicians played in front of 500,000 people in the rain and mud to promote peace. The festival was supposed to cost money, but so many people showed up that the people in charge decided to make it a free concert. Woodstock is recognized as the biggest event for the hippie culture.
