Qualcomm Stadium

Qualcomm Stadium officially opened in 1968 and was originally called the San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium. In 1997, a telecommunication company called Qualcomm agreed to pay 18 million dollars to complete an expansion of the stadium. In return the Chargers agreed to call the stadium “Qualcomm Stadium.” In 1984, the stadium expanded to about 61,000 seats and also 50 new suites. Then, in 1997, the stadium expanded to 71,500 seats, which is its current capacity. Other than professional football, Qualcomm stadium has been home to baseball games, international soccer games, many concerts, high school football games, and even the auditions for season seven of American Idol!
