Dwight Schrute is played by Rainn Wilson. As the sales representative and assistant to the regional manager of Dunder Mifflin, Dwight has won many awards because of his salesman skills. Before coming to Dunder Mifflin, Dwight was a volunteer sheriff and occasionally brings his sheriff instincts to work. Dwight Schrute is based on Gareth Keenan from the original British TV show. Dwight often wants authority over his co-workers so instead of being the “Assistant to the Regional Manager,” Dwight refers to himself as the “Assistant Regional Manager” in attempts to promote himself to second-in-command to Michael Scott. Rainn Wilson does justice to The Office as he brings comedy and also seriousness to Dunder Mifflin Paper Company.
