Ironically, there are twelve teams in the Big Ten Conference. The original teams in 1986 were Purdue, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Chicago, and Northwestern. They were followed by: Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, and Iowa. Nebraska was just recently added in 2011. In 2014 there will be a total of fourteen teams with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers. All of the schools in the conference are public schools with the exception of Northwestern, which remains the only private school in the Big Ten.
