Cake was created by John McCrea because him and a few other people hated the type of popular music in 1991 which was about the time Cake was formed. They also hated the restriction of producers so they created their own recording studio. John McCrea said this was very hard but was worth it in the end. The band also hates doing tours and writing music on them because they believe it restricts creativity due to all of the people. To this day Cake is still doing tours and their own thing.
