Nicklas Lidstrom, born April 28, 1970 in Sweden. Lidstrom has played his entire NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings playing Defenseman, and is currently the team captain.  In his 15-year career, Lidstrom has won four Stanley Cups, various NHL trophies and has been voted into ten NHL All-Star Games.  To this date, he is the only European-born and NHL captain to win the Stanley Cup.  In 1991 Lidstrom represented Sweden and won the Word Championship.  Lidstrom is considered the top NHL defenseman of his era, having won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defenseman three consecutive seasons from 2000-01 to 2002-03 and again from 2005-06 to 2007-08.  He’s been nominated for the award for a total of nine times in the past ten seasons, the first thee times finishing as the runner-up.  In the 2005-06 season Lidstrom set Franchise record for most points in a season for a defenseman with 80 points. He is NHL’s 45th player (9th defenseman) to achieve 700 career assists (2007-08).  Lidstrom is the first European player in NHL awarded the Norris Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy.
