Dean Smith Center
The Dean Smith Center, sometimes called the Dean Dome, has been the home of North Carolina basketball since 1986. It is of course named after the former coach at North Carolina, Dean Smith. The very first game there was on January 18, 1986 when #1 North Carolina beat #3 Duke 95-92. The biggest crowd to ever see a game there was the Duke game in 2005 where there were 22,125 people. The Tar Heels have big home court advantage when they play here. This shows with their 286-52 overall record at the Dean Dome. One of the coolest features of the arena is all of the banners hanging around the gym showing all of the accomplishments of UNC basketball. In 2001, the locker rooms and weight room were completely changed and they added a practice gym. The Dean Smith Center is an amazing court to see and has great fans every game.
