Over the years at North Carolina, there have been two amazing coaches. The first is Dean Smith. He coached at North Carolina from 1961-1997 and finished his coaching career with 879 wins, the second most among all Division I basketball coaches. While at UNC, he won two National Championships and was named National Coach of the Year four times. North Carolina’s basketball arena is now named after him; The Dean Smith Center. The other great coach at North Carolina is Roy Williams. He began coaching at North Carolina since 2003 and has already won two NCAA National Championships. His overall record as a coach is 607-146, but only 176 those wins were at North Carolina. In 2006, he won National Coach of the Year and in 2009, Forbes named Williams the best basketball coach in the country. Both of these coaches are truly amazing in all that they do and have done.
