Richard Starkey, more affectionately known as Ringo Starr, joined The Beatles in 1962. He is best known for writing lyrics that his band-mates found odd, such as "darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there," from the song Eleanor Rigby. He did quit The Beatles for a couple of weeks because of tensions between band members and also due to boredom. Ringo spent these couple weeks on Peter Sellers’s yacht, where he wrote Octopus’s Garden. He doesn’t believe that he himself is a good drummer, but Lennon once said "Ringo's a [darn] good drummer. He always was a good drummer. He's not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way as Paul's bass playing is underrated." The band had faith in him, even if he wasn’t the most confident man in the world. Click Here for more information on Ringo Starr. | |
