Blake Griffin is the highest rated recruit that Oklahoma has ever had in their program. As a freshman, he averaged 14.7 points and 9.1 rebounds a game. He led the Sooners to a 23-12 record in only his first year as a Sooner. In a game vs. Kansas, Griffin went down with a knee injury, which didn’t appear to be serious until it was further examined. He suffered torn cartilage in his right knee and had to have arthroscopic knee surgery to get it repaired. After his freshman year, Blake was a projected number one pick in the 2008 draft but decided to forgo his NBA career and come back for his sophomore year. In his sophomore year, Griffin averaged 22.7 points a game and 14.4 rebounds in 35 games that season. He was awarded the Naismith College Player of the Year, was one double double away from setting the 31 double-doubles in a season, and was awarded with the John Wooden Award as college basketball’s top player.
