FDNY has many ambulances to handle the sick and injured citizens. There are two levels of emergency medical care in New York City, which are: EMTs and Paramedics. EMTs respond to medical emergencies and basic life-support needs. They deal with things on the outside of our bodies like oxygen administration, bone fractures, control of blood loss and cardiac care. Paramedics can give painkillers and IVs, which is why they are known to deal with things inside our bodies. Many engine companies and ladder companies are now starting to have EMTs and Paramedics on those trucks instead of just ambulances.
