The UConn Women’s basketball team won its first national championship in 1995. They ended with their 89th victory last December and become one of the best teams that broke UCLA’s college record of 88 wins in a row, set between 1971-1974. They have 2 seniors, Maya Moore and Lorin Dixon, who helped the team do better and keep the victories going.The UConn team has had 7 national titles, 11 final four appearances, 15 30 win seasons, 10 Olympians, 11 first round draft picks for the WNBA and have been 543-41 since the 1994-95 season. Their nickname is the Huskies. The Huskies are a member of the Big East Conference and the school was formed in 1881. Basketball for women has been a part of the school for 36 years. The coach is on his 25th year with the team. They play in the Harry A. Gamper Pavilion.
