The current captain of the Black Pearl, Captain Balbosa, plays an important role throughout the storyline of Pirates. Taking leader ship from Jack Sparrow, his greed overwhelmed him and his crew, leading to tragic occurrences. Balbosa and his crew take cursed Aztec gold, and as a result…they are cursed. No longer feeling pain, warmth, hunger, satisfaction…the crew suffers from this horrible curse, and only one person can free them of it, the legendary Bootstrap Bill Turner’s offspring. Deciding to attack Port Royal, him and his crew find Elizabeth and kidnap her aboard the Black Pearl. Elizabeth tells them her last name is Turner, leading the plot on a wild goose chase, with Balbosa leading, and following the few leads that he has…all to remain Captain of the Black Pearl.
