The main character in The Scarlet Letter is a woman named Hester Prynne, who lives in Boston in the 1600’s. She is married, but has an affair with another man and then has a baby she names Pearl. Hester’s husband is using the alias Roger Chillingworth because he doesn’t want the people of Boston to know that he is really Hester’s husband. Chillingworth is a vengeful man who is incredibly selfish. Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale is the father of Pearl, but refuses to admit it. Hester also refuses to reveal his identity.
