Frog Image 2. Frogs have smooth skin, and very long hind legs to help them leap. Toads have drier warty skin and short legs. Toads do not leap; they crawl or plop themselves from place to place. Technically, toads are a type of frog. There are over 4,000 species of frogs in the world. And only 88 species live in the US and Canada. Frogs can be found all over the world, except for in Antarctica and Iceland. Because frogs have eyes and nostrils on the tops of their heads, they can see and breathe while the rest of their body is under water. Adult frogs breathe with lungs, and can also get oxygen through their skin. Some tree frogs live their whole lives in the trees, and never set foot on the ground. They even lay their eggs in the tree branches or on the leaves. It’s not because they are scared, it’s because that is their natural habitat. That’s why they’re called “Tree Frogs”.
