There were many people of that time who had leading roles, and some are still well-known today. William the Conqueror was known for leading the Norman Conquest, which was the end of the Anglo-Saxon period. Venerable Bede, or “Father of the English History,” wrote “A History of the English Church and People,” which was composed in Latin. Even though poetry was so popular, no one had really written religious poetry before, and Caedmon is the first English religious poet. Wyrd is the pagan god of fate, and even though he is not real, was still well-known.
