For some time Chevrolet lagged behind Ford and Dodge in sales. But in 1925 Chevy for the first time made a car that put them on top. This car was the Superior and they made over 1 million of these cars. Chevy held the title again from 1931 to 1934. They did this with the new V-shaped grills, hydraulic brakes, larger engines, and convertibles. In 1941 Chevy built a record 1.6 million vehicles. Then in 1942 they got a contract from the government to make parts for anti-aircraft guns and aircraft engines. During this time of war no new vehicles were made until 1946, and these were basically the same as what was made before.
