John and Horace Dodge got their start in 1900 making parts for Ford and other makes. By 1914 they made their own four-cylinder engine to build their own vehicles around. However it was not until 1921 that they started putting their parts into 1.5-ton pickups. These trucks had Graham bodies with Dodge parts. Then in 1925 Dodge bought out Graham to finally call the trucks theirs. In 1929 Dodge make a 1-ton truck that came with the choice between two six-cylinder engines. This was the first truck to have an engine that was not the four cylinder they first came out with.

From there Dodge continued to be successful. The company has grown in size and power of the year. Now they are big competition for the same company they once made parts for. The trucks they make also made big improvements in looks and engine sizes.

They have come a long way from a little four cylinders to what they are today
