The plot is set in the future in where the society is divided in five factions. Each teenager can choose a faction they most identify with and have to stay there forever. Beatrice Prior results show attributes of multiple factions, meaning she is Divergent. At the ceremony she makes a choice that surprises everyone- she chooses Dauntless. As soon as she finds out that the society takes action to eliminate all the Divergents Tris has to handle fast to protect the people she loves and herself.
