McKeenhan grew up in the shadows of Washington D.C., in the northern Virginia suburbs. There, he found a love for hip hop and rap. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. |

At the university, he met Michael Tait and Kevin Smith, and the three then became known as dc Talk. Dc Talk mixed hip hop, gospel, and grunge into one unique sound. |

After splitting in 1999, McKeehan went solo and released the album Momentum in ’01.The album received a Grammy nomination and five Dove awards. It also had a remix album: Re: Mix Momentum McKeenhan has released many more albums, Welcome to Diverse City,Portable Sounds, and many others, all under the name of TobyMac. |
