FC Barcelona’s stadium, Camp Nou, is the largest soccer stadium in Europe. The stadium has been the home pitch of Barcelona ever since it was constructed in 1957. Camp Nou seats 98,787 people, which makes it twelfth largest stadium in the world. In 2007, the stadium’s fiftieth anniversary, the club planned of increasing the number of seats in the stadium by 13,500. However, because of a financial crisis in 2009, the remodeling plans have been put on hold. Besides hosting FC Barcelona, Camp Nou has hosted two UEFA Champions League final matches. In 2009, the stadium also hosted the launch of the band U2’s 360˚ Tour. Camp Nou remains one of the elite stadiums in the world. |
