In August 1955, Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo released the Sony TR-55, the first Japanese transistor radio. In December, Sony released the Sony TR-72. In May 1956, Sony released the cartoon advertisement icon “Sony Boy”. Sony’s first name was Tkk; then it was Totsuko. After that it was Tokyo Teletech, then they chose Sony.
