The name “Cavaliers” came to the Cleveland basketball team when the Cleveland Plain Dealer issued a contest to find a name for the newly imported basketball team. The winner was Jerry Tomko. Jerry’s idea was to name the team the Cavaliers saying that they “represent a group of daring, fearless men, whose life’s pact was never surrender, no matter what the odds.” The Cavaliers still hold that name with no intentions to change it.
