.) If the European countries did not have alliances, World War I would not have been a world war at all. It would have just been a war between Austria-Hungry and Serbia; but alliances eventually pulled practically all of Europe into the war.

.) Imperialism is when a country wants to increase their power by conquering foreign lands. The increasing competition led to an increase in confrontation.

.) Militarism is when countries compare each other’s military to see who is the biggest and strongest. Every country was building up their militaries.

.) Nationalism is a nation wanting to rule itself without any help from other nations. Slavic people didn’t want to be part of Austria-Hungry anymore so they revolted; this led directly to the war.

.) The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was a direct cause to the war. It caused Serbia to revolt against Austria-Hungry; then all the other countries joined in on the fight.
