These elephants are considered forest animals. They also like open grassy glades. This provides shade from the sun and a variety of species among them. Asian elephants also mgrate when needed. When they do migrate, it is usally for a new resource of food and water or that their previous home is being destroyed. They also move within range, sometimes moving in a loop or circuit. It has been recorded that elephants typically walk about 1-4 miles a day. Not bad for something so big!
