Asian Elephants

Habitat

Asian elephants can be found in India, Thailand, southern China to southern and southeastern Asia. The elephants' homes are becoming harder and harder to maintain though. Human population growth is threatening the survival of elephants and their homes. It is estimated that bout 20% of the human population lives nearthe range of Asian elephants, putting stress on the elephants' habitat. These elephants are considered forest animals. They also like open grassy glades. This provides shade from the sun and a variety of species among them. Asian elephants also mgrate when needed. When they do migrate, it is usally for a new resource of food and water or that their previous home is being destroyed. They also move within range, sometimes moving in a loop or circuit. It has been recorded that elephants typically walk about 1-4 miles a day. Not bad for something so big!
