William Moulton Marston, also known under the pen name of Charles Moulton, was the creator of Wonder Woman. She first appeared in comics in December of 1941 in a copy of All Star Comics. The story behind Wonder Woman began when Amazonian Queen Hippolyte formed her out of clay with permission from the gods, because of her desire to become a mother. Princess Diana of the Amazonians was then created, (she did not come to be known as Wonder Woman until later). She grew up on a secret island hidden in the Bermuda Triangle called Paradise Island. It was where the Amazonian women fled to escape the male domination in Greece before Diana was created. Growing up, she was trained in the agility, speed, and strength of the Greeks. She was also blessed with all of the wisdom of Athena, the strength of Hercules, the swiftness of Mercury, and the beauty of Aphrodite. Diana’s life changed when Major Steve Trevor crash landed on their island. She found him and nursed him back to health, during which she fell in love with him. After he was well again, she received permission to return to America with him to fight for peace, truth and justice, becoming Wonder Woman.
