The show Animaniacs used a type of animation called “rubber hose,” where the arms and sometimes the legs of the characters had no real joints, they were just arcs that moved as they needed. The animation was not done in one place, however. Many different U.S. and sometimes Japanese companies did the animation for the show. Cels were used for the animation, which are transparent sheets of cellulose acetate, a synthetic fiber. Many sheets were used for one episode, for the characters moved all the time and never stood still when talking. Disney never kept this style of animation, and instead used computers, since they were easier and less expensive.
