Cleveland wasn’t always in the American League. Way back when Cy Young was with them, they were in the National League. They were also known as the Cleveland Spiders. Hall of Famer Cy Young helped the Spiders to three trips to what would be like the National League World Series in 1892, 1895, and 1896. They won the “Temple Cup” in 1895 against Baltimore. Young wowed the Majors with his blazing fastball that set records that still have not been broken. During his awesome career, he had five 30-game winning seasons and 16 20-game winning seasons. Young threw one perfect game and two other no hitters. Cy Young’s nickname was “iron-man”. The Cy Young Award (given to the best picture in his league) was named after him.
