Omar Vizquel is from Caracas, Venezuela. He made his début in 1989 with the Seattle Mariners where he became known for his glove, speed and contact. Vizquel played 11 seasons from 1994 to 2004 with the Cleveland Indians. Vizquel made his World Series début in 1995 with the Indians. During his 21-and still counting-year career, Vizquel won 11 Gold Glove Awards-nine in a row by 2001. Gold Gloves are given to the best fielder in his position. In 2006 he became the oldest person to win a Gold Glove; in 2007, he got his 2,500th career hit. Vizquel has been elected to three all-star games. Many experts agree that when he retires, Vizquel will be a lock to be in the Hall of Fame. |
