Jim Thome played for the Cleveland Indians from 1991 to 2002. He was a third baseman at the beginning of his career then changed to first base. As he aged, he became a designated hitter because he was unable to field to the team’s desire. Thome holds multiple team records for the Indians. He has the most home runs in one season as an Indian with 52 in 2002. He also has the most walks and the most strikeouts with 127 walks in 1999 and 185 strikeouts in 2001. He won one Silver Slugger, was named to five All-Star Teams, and was the Comeback Player of the year in 2006. Thome has also won awards for his character like the Roberto Clemente Award for outstanding skills, sportsmanship and community support, and the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award for showing great skill and character. He was also elected Man of the Year twice by “Player’s Choice”. |
