The Wimbledon Championships; the most prestigious of the four grand slams. Roger Federer has become a legend on the grass courts of the All England Club. Federer has played many unforgettable matches on center court. The legend that is Roger Federer truly started at Wimbledon in 2001 when he played Pete Sampras in a five set, three and a half hour, amazing match in the round of 16. Federer defeated a man, who at the time seemed undefeatable himself. This was the beginning of Federer’s illustrious career; a career in which he would eventually surpass the greatness of his idle, Pete Sampras. In 2003 Federer had his breakout slam winning Wimbledon for the first time. Federer dominated Wimbledon the next four years and seemed to be undefeatable on the grass courts, even by Nadal, until 2008. In 2008 Federer seemed to be on his way to a record sixth consecutive Wimbledon title, but once again he met his nemesis, Rafa Nadal, in the finals. This match was considered one of the greatest, if not the single greatest, match of all time. Federer was defeated for the first time in five years at Wimbledon. The next year, however, Nadal was forced to withdraw due to injury, enabling Federer to cruise to the finals where he met Andy Roddick. With Sampras in the stands Federer and Roddick put on a phenomenal show, with Federer prevailing and capturing his record breaking 15th Grand Slam title.
