Strait holds the record for most number one albums, gold albums, platinum albums, and multi-platinum in the history of country music. Strait is third to Elvis Presley and The Beatles with the most gold and platinum albums. Strait has 22 CMA; three of them are Entertainer of the Year in 1989,1990 and recently in 2013. In 2006 Strait was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame and is the second artist to be inducted into the Hall of Fame while he was still recording. In 2008 the Academy of Country Music Awards named Strait the Artist of the Decade for the 2000s. On June 1, Governor Rick Perry and First Lady Anita Thigpen Perry announced that May 18 will be known as “George Strait Day” in Texas.
