The members of Muse were originally in three different bands at Teignmouth Community College when the three met. Bellamy and Howard first met when Bellamy successfully auditioned for lead guitar in Dom Howard’s band. Chris Wolstenholme, who at the time played drums, decided to learn how to play bass for the band. The band was originally named Rocket Baby Dolls. In a local Battle of the Bands, the Rocket Baby Dolls played, won, and smashed their instruments in the process. The performance was meant to be a protest and a statement by the band, but turned out to be the factor that made them realize their potential for success. After winning, the band changed its name to Muse and moved away from Teignmouth and begin to take their careers seriously. From that point on, Muse became one of the most successful bands in British history. | |
