Matthew Bellamy, born June 9, 1978, is the lead singer, guitarist, and pianist of Muse. Matt’s father, George, played rhythm guitar for The Tornados, the first British band to have a number one song, “Telstar,” in the U.S. “Knights of Cydonia,” written by Bellamy, is called a tribute to his father’s number one single. Matt began playing piano when he was 10 years old. At the age of 14, Matt’s parents divorced and he was forced to move in with his grandmother who pushed him into learning guitar. Matt is not only an immensely talented guitarist, but has a very wide vocal range. Matt, the main songwriter of Muse, expresses the ideas of Georgism in many of his songs.
