Located at the corner of East 161st Street and River Avenue is the beautiful Yankee Stadium. Built in 2008 and 2009, the new Yankee Stadium replaced the old Yankee stadium that had been originally built in 1921 and underwent a major renovation from 1973-1976. The old Yankee Stadium was known as “The House that Ruth Built” and contained many structural achievements for its day. The old stadium had a triple-deck grandstand along with a humongous scoreboard that could keep track of all the major league games. Yankee Stadium was also known for its deep fences in the power alleys and short porches in the corners. When Yankee Stadium was remodeled in 1973, it received baseball’s first telescreen and they removed steel columns in the upper decks. Yankee Stadium then received a lowering in the playing surface and an additional 10 rows in the upper deck. The new Yankee Stadium is thought to be one of the finest and most modernized stadiums in baseball. |
